Alberta Lawyers Indemnity Association (ALIA) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Law Society of Alberta, created to manage the mandatory indemnity program for Alberta lawyers. Every lawyer in private practice must hold coverage provided by ALIA.
Please note: ALIA is unable to provide you with legal advice.
Making a Claim
If you have suffered a financial loss from working with your lawyer or as a consequence of the services provided by your lawyer, you may be entitled to make a claim.
If your loss was due to theft or negligence by your lawyer, please read How to Make a Claim.
To speak about a claim (or potential claim that has not yet been reported), please call 403.229.4716 or 1.800.661.1694, or email ALIA.
The Limitations Act governs limitation dates. Depending on circumstances, the deadline may be as little as two years from when the lawyer performed the legal work. Notifying ALIA of a claim does not stop or extend the deadline by which you must start a lawsuit to keep the claim active.
