Website Changes

March 23, 2017

We have implemented significant changes to our website.

Our website is an important point of contact with lawyers and the public and receives millions of hits every year. We sought feedback from the public, profession and Law Society staff on how to improve the user experience for all of our audiences. We focused on making our website accessible across platforms and mobile devices, simplifying our content, and improving the discoverability of information.

Be sure to update any bookmarks you have saved for the old site. Our homepage location (www.lawsociety.ab.ca) remains the same, but the pages within our website have likely changed. You may receive an error message when trying to access an old page location. The best way to locate the new information is by using the website search function (click on the magnifying glass icon on the top right hand side of the screen). We have made significant improvements to this key functionality.

If you have any questions or comments about the website changes, we would like to hear from you. Please email us. We have also prepared an FAQ below which may help answer some of your questions.

FAQs

What has changed?

We made a number of visual, content and behind-the-scenes changes throughout the entire website, including:

  • Homepage changes – while presenting a more modern appearance, it is materially similar to our old website. Content is organized by similar categories with improvements made for easier navigation. You can access the Lawyer Portal in two areas on the homepage:
    • Top grey bar
    • Quick Links
  • New website area – the Resource Centre is a library of professional development materials to foster high ethical and professional standards. You will find information on Law Society programs and a compendium of articles, webinars, checklists and model policies. We encourage you to take a look.
  • Improvements to regulatory section – allows visitors to better locate the disciplinary information.
  • Optimization of website search behavior – allowing users to locate information by keywords for a more user-friendly experience.

What happens if I receive an error message when trying to access an old page (either by Google or an old link)?

As part of improvements made, we have moved many pages. You are receiving an error message because the page has moved.

The best way to locate the new information is by using the website search function (click on the magnifying glass icon on the top right hand side of the screen).

What happens if I search and still can’t find the information I am looking for?
