First Nations Jurisdictional Issues: In Law and In Practice

July 3, 2019

On June 18, 2019, The Law Society hosted a special presentation in celebration of Aboriginal Awareness Week at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law. First Nations Jurisdictional Issues: In Law and in Practice focused on some of the key challenges facing First Nations leadership with regard to governance, child welfare, education and natural resources management, and how disagreements over the roles of federal and provincial governments have contributed to those challenges.

Speaking at the event were Brooks Arcand Paul of MLT Aikins, Chief of Ermineskin First Nation Craig Mackinaw and Mario Swampy, Council Member of the Samson Cree Nation. The event was recorded for reference; watch the video below and View Brooks Arcand-Pauls’ Presentation here.
