The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is excited to invite members of the legal community to a unique field event in partnership with the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park on the Siksika Nation. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for lawyers to visit the historically significant site of the 1877 signing of Treaty 7 between the Crown of Canada and the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Stoney-Nakoda and Tsuut’ina First Nations.
A guided tour with interpreter will take us through the Blackfoot Confederacy’s pre-contact way of life, the events leading to Treaty 7, a walkthrough of the historic sites and cultural relics in the beautiful museum, and a customized presentation on the modern impact of Treaty 7 on First Nations in Alberta. Following the tour, our hosts have graciously invited us to observe the traditional drum and dance.
If you have any further questions, please contact Communications at the CBA.
Round-trip transportation from downtown Calgary to Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, lunch, refreshments and delicious bannock are included in this full day program.
Minimizing risk to the public and to the safety of funds entrusted to lawyers is critical to the work of the Law Society of Alberta. Our Trust Safety program supports lawyers in the proper management of a trust account. To support trust accounting education and awareness, we are offering a free Trust Safety 101 workshop on trust bank account reconciliation.
A reconciliation is the accounting procedure that proves your trust transactions have been recorded accurately. This is a key internal control over the firm’s assets that provides proof that there are sufficient funds in trust. Bank reconciliations enable firms to locate mistakes in the books or bank, track problematic transactions and identify fraud or accounting errors. Reconciliation must occur monthly, regardless of whether there have been any trust transactions in that month.
