Remembering everything that needs to get done in a typical residential real estate transaction can be daunting. Worse yet, failure to adhere to applicable rules and processes can result in significant consequences for clients and for lawyers. This program will survey a broad range of topics that pertain to conveyancing and will support attendees in establishing appropriate procedures, office policies, and best practices.
Topics include:
- Acting for purchasers (new builds, traditional closing, protocol closing)
- Condos and mobile homes
- Non-resident vendors and GST
- Dower, family law considerations, and acting for a couple who are separating/separated
- Surface leasers, water potability, and other acreage issues
- What to do when closing is delayed
- Remote signings and trust safety concerns
- Mortgage instructions and refinances
- Private deals and family deals
- Compliance, permits, repairs, and other deliverables
- Business considerations of a residential real estate law practice
This program is intended for lawyers in their first few years of practice and those who are looking to revisit the basics. Legal support staff may also be interested in this program.
