2025–2026 Continuing Professional Development Planning Cycle Now Open
Alberta lawyers can start creating their 2025–2026 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) plans. Access to the CPD Tool is through the Lawyer Portal. All lawyers who have an active status as of Aug. 1, 2025 are required to submit an annual plan by Wednesday, Oct. 1. The only exception are lawyers who have the status of active-non-practising. All lawyers, regardless of practising status, have access to the CPD Tool.
Alberta lawyers are able to tailor their CPD plans to their individual needs. As you start to think about your new CPD plan you may find it helpful to use the Track Progress and Year-End Reflection features to reflect on the effectiveness of your 2024–2025 CPD plans and learning activities. These features will remain open until Sept. 30, when the 2024–2025 CPD cycle ends.
You may want to refer to the resource How to Write SMART Goals in 5 Steps, to create concise goals and action steps to keep them on track. Once you create your plan, a Learning Resource section will display in the CPD Tool that suggests resources based on the information included in your CPD plan.
You can find out more information in our User Guide, FAQs and on the CPD section of our website. If you have additional questions about completing your annual CPD plan or the CPD Tool, please contact Education.
