Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association – Beyond Google: Getting Your Firm Cited in AI Answers with GEO

A growing share of people looking for a lawyer now start in an AI assistant rather than on a search results page. When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for a civil litigation firm in Calgary or Edmonton, a short list of firms gets named by name. The criteria behind those answers are not the same ones that drove Google rankings for the last twenty years, and most firms have no way to know whether they are being cited at all.

This session run through the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association, hosted by Namay Sharma of Measure Marketing, uses live citation tracking data from an active client portfolio to show what these systems actually pull from, why some firms appear repeatedly and others never do, and what a firm can change without rebuilding its website.

Attendees will leave able to:

  • Explain how AI answer engines select and cite law firms, and which sources they draw from most often.
  • Run a 30-minute self-audit to see where their firm currently stands in AI-generated answers.
  • Identify the content formats that get quoted most often, including case results, practice-area explainers, and FAQ pages.
  • Correct the business listing, review, and firm-name inconsistencies that quietly remove a firm from consideration.
Ask better questions of a marketing vendor, and recognize which reported metrics carry little meaning.
