Civility & Professionalism in the Courts: A Candid Conversation with the Chief Justices
Date: January 20, 2026
Location: Calgary and Webinar
Address: Law Society of Alberta Office Suite 700 333 11th Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta
We are pleased to welcome the Honourable Ritu Khullar, Chief Justice of Alberta and the Court of Appeal, the Honourable Kent H. Davidson, Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Honourable James A. Hunter, Chief Justice of the Alberta Court of Justice, for a rare opportunity to hear directly from the Courts on topics that lawyers and students-at-law often wonder about. Law Society President, Stacy Petriuk, KC, will moderate a discussion about the importance of the rule of law in the legal system, trends related to civility and professionalism, and how lawyers can gain confidence in navigating court matters. There will also be time set aside for questions from attendees on related topics.
The Law Society has recently released a new Professionalism in the Courts resource which covers important details about preparing for court, formalities during court and communicating with the court that would be helpful to review in advance of the event. The Chief Justices will expand upon these topics and discuss more nuanced subject matter relating to civility and professionalism.
This will be a hybrid event hosted at the Law Society of Alberta office and on Zoom webinar. Please note: this event will not be recorded. Registration details are provided below.
