Regulated Professions Neutrality Act and Legal Profession Act Amendments

November 20, 2025

Today, the Government of Alberta released the Regulated Professions Neutrality Act as well as corresponding amendments to the Legal Profession Act.

As one of Alberta’s professional regulatory bodies, the Law Society of Alberta has a duty to protect the public interest in the regulation of legal services. Alberta’s approximately 14,000 lawyers play an active role in upholding the core principles of the rule of law and representing diverse interests. Upholding the rule of law ensures that Albertans, and all Canadians, have equal access to legal counsel, courts and the consistent protection of their rights.

The Law Society will conduct a thorough review of the new legislation to fully understand what it means for the Law Society, the public and the legal profession in Alberta.
