Indigenous law students who wish to participate in the program and meet the applicant criteria are invited to apply.
To register for this program, you must be a law student of First Nations, Inuit or Métis descent. You must also be enrolled in your second year (2L) of law school, with 2L completion in April 2022.
Qualifying Students must submit their application directly to the employers you have selected in your ISSP Student Registration Form.

- You are currently enrolled in first or second year of a Canadian law school and will be returning to full time school immediately following the work term.
- Effective and professional communication both verbal and written with ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Effective time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proven digital literacy and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Ability to actively and consistently represent Enbridge’s core values (Safety, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion).
- Legal research experience is an asset (Westlaw, Quicklaw, etc.)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, especially with handling critical legal documents and company information.

Qualifications Required: Student Legal Assistance (SLA) is the not-for-profit pro bono law student legal clinic at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law that serves low income Calgary and area residents, and students at the University of Calgary. Legal Services are delivered by University of Calgary Faculty of Law student caseworkers. SLA runs a summer clinic from May to August each year and hires a team of law students who act as legal caseworkers to service a diverse clientele. SLA has participated in the Law Societies’ ISSP for the last 3 summers. Preference is given to Indigenous UCalgary law students although applications from students from other law schools are accepted. One position is available for a student in either 1L or 2L.
Areas of Practice: Summer law student caseworkers provide agency representation and legal information to clients within the scope of legal services allowed for law students pursuant to the Legal Profession Act and the Rules of the Law Society of Alberta. This includes court appearances and agency representation for low income clients in the Provincial Court of Alberta (Family, Criminal, Traffic and Civil Divisions), at certain administrative tribunals and in a variety of outreach programs. Students develop a range of skills including interviewing, counselling, negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, judicial dispute resolution, pre-trial conferences, dispositions, trial advocacy, research, drafting, court practice, client relations, and file practice management.

Qualifications Required: We are looking for students who have a passion for advocating for access to justice for low income individuals. Legal Aid Alberta is looking for students who have an interest in child welfare, family, immigration and/ or criminal law. Experience with working with clients through Student Legal Services, Student Legal Assistance, or another law school clinic would be an asset.
Areas of Practice: The student would spend time in several practice groups including family and child welfare assisting parents involved in the child protection system, criminal law both youth and adult matters in duty counsel and full representation matters. In addition, the students may be involved in further development of LAA Indigenous Action plan or other Indigenous initiatives.
