Regulations
The Law Society of Alberta governs an independent legal profession in the public interest. It protects the public, and promotes a high standard of legal services and professional conduct among lawyers.
The Law Society of Alberta receives the authority to regulate the legal profession from the Legal Profession Act. The Act authorizes the Rules of the Law Society of Alberta for the carrying out of this authority. The Law Society has also adopted a Code of Conduct for lawyers in Alberta. As well, a national Model Code of Professional Conduct was drafted for Canadian lawyers, and was approved by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
