Imposition of Interim Conditions

On April 20, 2011, a special meeting of the Benchers of the Law Society of Alberta was called under Section 63 of the Legal Profession Act, R.S.A. 2000, c.L-8 regarding the conduct of Philip Fiess of Calgary, Alberta.  At the conclusion of the proceedings, the following conditions, inter alia, were imposed:

  1. Mr. Fiess is to forthwith finalize his transfer to inactive status.
  2. Mr. Fiess is not to apply to transfer to active status pending resolution of the conduct issues giving rise to the special meeting.
  3. Should Mr. Fiess desire to be employed as a lawyer-supervised paralegal while inactive, he may do so only with the firm of Schuettlaw of Calgary, Alberta pursuant to an approved written contract, pending the finalization of the conduct matters giving rise to the special meeting.
The Benchers further directed that any variation of the foregoing conditions would require a further special meeting of the Benchers.
