“The New Rules of Court: A Seamless Transition” Course Offering by LESA
By Paul Wood, Executive Director, Legal Education Society of Alberta
Attending an introductory session or a live webcast will give lawyers the background and rationale for the new Alberta Rules of Court as well as how these will affect law practices.
The Legal Education Society of Alberta - with Alberta Law Reform Institute, Alberta Justice, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and Justice Canada - will provide training on the new Rules, anticipated to come into effect Nov. 1, 2010.
The introductory program, called “The New Rules of Court: A Seamless Transition,” will provide lawyers valuable tips for making the transition to the new Rules. All lawyers, articling students, and legal support staff will want to attend this critical overview session. Attend live in Edmonton (April 12, 2010) or Calgary (April 19, 2010), or participate by live webcast on April 12th.
As well, LESA will be offering seven interactive workshops covering all phases of litigation. Courses can be taken live or by online self-study. Live workshops, with multiple offerings in both Edmonton and Calgary, will run Mondays starting September 13, 2010.
Individuals who attend “A Seamless Transition” and complete the seven workshops, as part of our Rules of Court Transition Package will receive a special certificate from LESA. This package and individual programs can be included in lawyers’ 2010 CPD Plans.
Also, LESA is working on new forms, precedents, and online resources to help support the profession during this change. Special programs are planned for Civil Appeals and Family Law.
